Great software for testing and analysis! Easy implementation and control. I guess: SSS for software = Google Analytics for web! The most interesting feature for me is Custom Events feature. We can analyze our software during development. In this case we can reduce time and save money.

I think that getting precise and real-time information about my software usage is essential. It would be great to get some important statistics such as what countries are my users from, how often they use the software and if they get all necessary functionality. My software usage analytics will help me to better plan marketing activities, better understand my end-users and suggest them just the product they want.

Being Head of Marketing Department I think it is a great benefit to get software usage reports. Such information is necessary for planning promotions and analyzing the results. The data I receive from Software Statistics Service is priceless for successful marketing activities. I also use the data I receive with a help of Software Statistics Service for matching with web-site analytics and determine targeted audience for every product.
I would highly recommend it to every serious software development company. Such statistics is needed for making right decisions on every stage of product life cycle, product launch (after analysing beta-version of the product with Software Statistics Service) and for development of effective marketing-mix. This information helps us on permanent improvement of our e-commerce software and services, on preparing effective marketing campaigns and as a result - we get happy customers and boost our sales.

I personally have never used any tools for software usage metering myself though the idea sounds useful and helpful for businesses delivering software solutions. I think it might help our R&D; and marketing as well as it is important to understand what features and product capabilities are mostly used, which of them can be improved and should be addressed at first. Besides, from the marketing point of view it can help to set up the pricing scheme that would better match a particular product and help generate more profits.

I think that metrics have become an important part of the software development process. Measurement enables you to control and improve the software process. You should try and decide whether it is useful for you or not.

You can not do business without knowing in what direction are you moving. There are specific metrics that open your eyes on problems that you didn't even think about. The more data about software usage you have, the more solutions you can have .... as well as new ideas.
The importance in statistics is not only in figures, but mostly in interpretation of those figures. As runtime analytics shows actually users' behavior, the decisions are self explanatory. For example, if the average session time is longer than the benchmark, then you must guess: either your users don't find what they need, so they look for it and spend time, or they are thrilled with your software and just use it longer. What should be the decision? The right one is to look on the other metrics as well and realize how the figures are linked. When you have all metrics in one place, updated at the same time and presented in the same graph, you can consider yourself lucky - it is the best way to save time, effort and money!

I think this concept is useful, especially if you have software like Word and don’t know what features are basic and what are really selling. For small companies such statistics may be useful too, but not as much as it is for big ones. But if in order to collect statistics you need to send it in internet and you have no guarantee that some antivirus may mark software as a virus, I will not use it. The risk getting into black lists is higher than the advantage.
All metrics are necessary to answer a question “what is a customer ready to pay for?” But is it possible to get the answer automatically? Rather no, than yes. You can compare free and commercial lisences performance and try to find some peculiarities. For example, all customers use feature 1 50% of their time and after the purchase they use it 90% of their time. But I think it is impossible to get such bright data. It would be useful to know how many people and how often use the program to better understand if you need to put an advertisement and how much to take for it, in case it is suitable for the software.

I think it's nice and cool, so it allows us to see real data and what can be impoved! Really as good as website analytics! It's quite straightforward in few cases: remove/add functionality depending on usage, add test version of some functions..calculate some ROI...etc.

Software usage metering is very important for licensing and product improvement. It helps to understand who, where and when was using our soft and also predict future load of our servers. As far as we have usage information, we can always plan which resources we need to provide the best service for our customers.
We hope that these analytics will help us to improve our services basing on information about session durations, number of runs for certain date, peak loads, hardware and geo location. Such precious information lets us to understand customers' desires much deeply, provide new features even before customers think about them
